Every digital marketer is aware of the importance of visually engaging content. Most people have heard of Canva. And many avoid because they don’t feel design-strong. But visual content is 40x more likely to be shared on social media than other forms. So, does a graphic design tool have to be intimidating to those of us who aren’t artistically minded? The answer is no. All you need is a quick guide like this and a push for confidence. In this article, we’re going to talk you through how to use canva for visual content.

Browse Templates

Before you begin, have a look at Canva’s vast array of templates available. They’re organised into categories and subcategories, so are easy to rifle through when you’re looking for something perfect. These can serve as inspiration or as a template for your work. The templates are also sized correctly, for example: if you search for banners, Facebook posts, Instagram stories, etc, you’ll be presented with a template fit to size.

Photo Library

One tool provided by Canva, that should never be underestimated, is it’s built in photo library. There is such a variety of images to choose from, so you’ll find the perfect picture for your work easily. Although you can import your own images, it’s worth scouring the Canva library before.

Adjust

Make any changes to your image with the adjust tab on Canva. You can change the brightness, tint, contrast, saturation, vignette and blur. There are also options to add a professional filter.

Match image and text

The font pairing tool. If you don’t know, get to know! Choosing a font that matches the rest of the content is difficult and time consuming. But not if you use this handy little tool that Canva has provided. Take the stress out of design by utilising all the tools Canva has to offer.

Animate

Want to take your graphic to the next level? Click the animate button. Your images and text can move subtly, or not so subtly, whatever you want. Creating simple video content is as easy as that.

So, transform your social feed by stepping out of your comfort zone and jumping on the Canva bandwagon if you haven’t already. Reimagine your graphic abilities. Canva needn’t be an intimidating, exclusively-graphic-designer tool, especially after you’ve read our quick guide for how to use canva for visual content.
