Instagram for your business is a mindfield. It can be overwhelming and intimidating and many businesses bury it at the bottom of the neverending list of things to do, never to be seen again. Sound familiar to anyone? But who else will showcase your business, if not you? We’ve written an article on Starting Instagram for Your Business, and hope to unravel the stressful tangle of string that is Insta for you.

Decide on a theme

Make sure your posts are similarly coloured. Use the same filter each time.  Look at your logo or business’ colours. Maybe these are the most self explanatory colours to go with. Or maybe, look to colours that you believe reflect your business’ aims. For example, if you own a spa, perhaps the calming quality that blue has would make for a good colour choice.

Make a decision about the type of content you want to be predominantly posting. Do you want images of your employees or models, stock images, motion graphics or arty looking graphics? Again, go back to the question of how best to reflect your business’ aims.

Schedule your content

Spend a little time at the beginning of the week organising your content. This way, you’re not scrambling to get something posted every day. You can schedule it, then forget it. For this, we use a couple of trusty tools called Creator Studio and Buffer. Creator Studio allows you to schedule content on Facebook and Instagram, and Buffer schedules things for LinkedIn and Twitter.

Follow the following tips:

  • Set goals and try to reach them. When you’re creating content, ask yourself if it is relevant to reaching your goals. Remember, your content should be what your audience wants to see, not you!
  • Always use high quality images and videos. We all know this, but we’ll say it louder for the people in the back. Your business will suffer, majorly, if you use low quality, pixelated or blurry images or videos. People don’t want to see it. Sorry.
  • Size your image properly for the platform you’re using. The best Instagram image size for posts are: 1080px by 1080px (Square) 1080px by 1350px (Portrait) and 1080px by 608px (Landscape).

The key to starting Instagram for your business and succeeding, is consistency. Using a consistent theme and scheduling posts to ensure you have a flow of content are two ways to do this. Follow our top tips and watch your business’ Instagram following and engagement grow.
