Most businesses today are coming to the realisation that video content is extremely important. We know that video content is more digestible and easier to consume, but did you know that social media videos generate up to 1200% more shares than texts and images combined? Here at Rapid, we have combined a few tips for creating high quality videos for social media.

Consider how you look on camera

Think about the position of the camera. Always keep it at eye level and never, ever position your camera below you. You will not look good.

Take note of the lighting. Consider where the light is coming from; so don’t sit with your back to the light. And as a rule of thumb, natural light is always better.

Having an awareness of your background is always a good thing. Don’t forget to clear the area you’re filming in, make it as clutter free and easy on the eye as possible. That way, your audience will be able to focus on your high quality video for social media

Keep your hand steady

Invest in a tripod for your phone. A shaky hand will seriously damage how professional your content looks. Your audience will find it easier to concentrate on your message if you keep your camera steady throughout.

Make the first thirty seconds exciting

The first thirty seconds of your video are what will draw your audience in. Wow them with dazzling content to keep them interested.

Use Square Formatting

Traditionally, video was shot and posted 1920 x 1080, or a 16:9 aspect ratio—a rectangle like you see on your TV or YouTube. Along came Instagram, and that changed. Square video takes up 78% more space in the mobile news feed than landscape video and always performs better.

Add Subtitles

A lot of the time, videos on social media play without sound automatically. Most people watch muted clips. It’s important to add subtitles so that you can get your message across, with or without sound.

So, your content needs to be A*, but your delivery needs to be world class as well. The social media space is a competitive landscape, with millions of pieces of content being uploaded constantly. And it can be overwhelming. But don’t be disheartened. Consider these pointers for creating and publishing high quality videos for social media and you’ll be well on your way.
