Blog writing is a skilful practise. Some would call it an art. There is a technique and it must be mastered. Structure, tone of voice and length all must be taken into consideration. You can help your readers grasp the core meaning of a post by providing headings, subheadings and clear paragraphs. So, let’s get started: here’s our advice for writing SEO-friendly blog posts.

Keyword Research

Before you lift a pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, you need to do some research around the topic you’re writing about. Have a look for keywords, understand what it is your audience searches for.

Then, write a plan. Think before you write. Map out a clear structure that you want your blog post to follow. This should always include an introduction, main body and conclusion.

SEO Copywriting

Consideration must be given to paragraphs and headings. Structure your text so it is divided into different sections and can be easily read. This may seem like a simple thing to do, but bite sized paragraphs are more appealing than a big body of text and will keep readers engaged. There’s another plus to having headings. Google can grasp the main topics of the post, and this will improve the rankings for your SEO.

Use signal words. This can help the reader understand what point in the text they are at. Phrases like ‘first of all’; ‘secondly’ and ‘finally’ keep your text structured and improve the readability big time.

The length of your text should never be shorter than 300 words. A sweet spot is probably about 450/500 words. This is the length of writing that will keep the reader engaged.

Another helpful tip, is to link internally and externally. This means throughout your text, include links to sections of your blog or website, and links to other sites. You will seem as though you have some authority on the topic in question, and maybe the readers will want to have a look too.

When it’s posted…

At Rapid, we recommend posting blogs one/two times a week. The consistency and volume of content will help your business to crawl up the rankings. As well as this, never underestimate the power of Google My Business. You should be uploading these blogs and photos to this platform every time you post.

In short, writing SEO-friendly blogs doesn’t have to be daunting. It’s a skill, but there’s a clear strategy to follow. So follow our steps and you’ll be climbing up the rankings in no time.
