What is your role at Rapid & how long have you been on the team?

My role at Rapid is as a Web Developer, and I’ve been part of the team for 8 months. I focus on creating and managing websites and web applications. My responsibilities include developing innovative digital solutions that enhance user experience and achieve our clients’ business goals.

What are some key trends or technologies that you’re currently seeing, and how do these influence your work? Are there any that you’re particularly excited about?

Key trends like AI, AI chatbots and VUI/voice search are shaping web development. These technologies inspire innovative approaches, allowing developers to create dynamic, user-centric web experiences.

These trends drive my work towards creating efficient and engaging web solutions that leverage the latest advancements in technology. The future of web and web development is always an exciting topic and often is unpredictable.

How did your journey as a Web Developer begin? Was there anything that sparked your interest in joining the field?

During my time at university studying Interactive Multimedia Design, I explored various industries that aligned with my skill set. Ultimately, I was drawn to Web Development because of its dynamic and gratifying nature. Bringing websites to life and addressing challenges in the digital realm captivated my interest and motivated me to pursue this career path.

What does your day-to-day look like as a Web Developer at Rapid?

Each day really is different, due to the diverse projects we handle across various clients and industries.  From establishing a website presence for a client to developing a fully unique e-commerce solution for an existing branding to even implementing complex booking engines and digital solutions for clients to help their business grow and succeed.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Rapid team?

I find satisfaction in tackling the challenges of a fast-paced, dynamic setting, where we constantly push boundaries. Working with a talented team makes everyday a learning experience and the ability to make a real world impact with the work we do. The team spirit and culture make for a great working environment full of ideas and creativity.

Do you have any memorable moments that stand out to you from your journey at Rapid so far? Any projects you are particularly proud of?

There is a real sense of achievement whenever the team launches a new site or an idea comes to life, the most memorable moment so far would be the Four Loko project.

This was a real collaborative project from UX design to development and implementation of e-commerce to enhance an already existing brand. From start to finish the team came together to tackle the challenges and bring the Four Loko project to life. It was a fantastic demonstration of teamwork and creativity, from the initial UX design discussions to the intricacies of development and finally launching the enhanced e-commerce platform. Witnessing the brand evolve and thrive through our collective efforts was incredibly fulfilling. This project showcased our capabilities, emphasising the power of collaboration in achieving ambitious goals. The energy and excitement throughout the process made it a standout moment in my journey at Rapid.

If you could go back in time to the Jack who was just starting his career, what piece of advice would you give him?

“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Embrace the learning process and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.”

Early on, it’s easy to get caught up in perfection and worry about every little detail. However, this journey is about growth and exploration. Making mistakes is part of learning and improving. So, instead of fearing missteps, embrace them as opportunities to gain experience and refine your skills. There’s so much to absorb and discover in your career, and the journey is as important as the destination.

What would you say to someone who is considering a career in Web Development?

I’d recommend diving into learning the foundational languages web. There is so much material out there that can be overwhelming but starting off with the basics and building on this would put you in a great position.

Start building projects to solidify your skills and showcase your abilities. Explore popular frameworks and stay updated with industry trends through conferences, sessions and webinars, and network with other developers for mentorship and opportunities.

Web development is dynamic and requires continuous learning, but it’s a rewarding field for those who enjoy problem-solving and creativity.

Building user-friendly and visually appealing websites or web applications that make a positive impact is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, I enjoy continuous learning and staying updated with new technologies in this ever-evolving field.

What is your office pet peeve?

That awkward, “let me share my screen, okay, can you see my screen” moment.
