We’re nine blog posts in – can you believe it? Seems like no time since we were asking Francesca to pen our very first one! This blog post however, is a little different to those who have gone before. Introducing Lucy aka All Things Beautifully Made, who is an avid blogger in spite of her disability. Lucy doesn’t let anything get in her way and is blogging up a storm! Whilst Lucy admits her nerves over writing this piece, we think she’s given a fantastic insight into her blogging experience. Give it a read!
When Rapid Marketing sent me a message and asked if I would consider writing a guest blog post for them… I was ready to say no. If I remember correctly I said a few months ago I was going to start saying yes to things out of my comfort zone. I haven’t written a blog post for a year and a half. I’m a tad rusty when it comes to writing, so bear with me.
I started this whole journey about 3 years ago. My sister Zoe asked me to go to an event down in Dublin, she already had the blogging down to a tee. I started this because of one reason, well a couple of reasons but we will start with the first. I’m disabled. I have a medical condition called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva. You’re probably wondering what it is. It is a disability that turns my muscles to bone when I fall, or bang in to things. To get a job with this disability is IMPOSSIBLE. In this day and age I didn’t think discrimination was still a massive thing but it really is.
Being different to eveyone else is hard. When you try to fit in while everyone else is ‘normal is particularly tough especially when it comes to going places. I always have to depend on someone else and I don’t like that, I like to be as independent as I can. I don’t like asking for help. Trying to pose and take photos with movement is difficult. I have so many insecurities but I have chosen to just ignore those and get on with it. Having a positive mindset definitely helps, I have a great support network of family and friends, they can give me a kick up the bum whenever I need it.
What A Journey!
I’m thankful for this journey and for what doors it has opened for me. It has helped me in ways I never thought. I have made so many great friends whom I am so greatful for. It’s never been about the numbers for me but how I can help others along on their journey.
